About Us

Milford & Godalming u3a began life as Milford & District U3A and that began in September 1999 with the branch having 200 members and offering 12 interest groups. Several of those groups remain firm favourites and continue to this day.  I the meantime the membership has grown to almost 800 and the number of interest groups available to members is now over 70.

The University of the Third Age is a nationwide network of learning groups for people who are no longer in full-time employment. Its aim is to share knowledge, skills and interests in a friendly environment. Membership is not restricted to a specific age group but to a period in life. The third age follows the second age, that of full-time employment and parental responsibility.

The U3A provides an opportunity to meet people and to learn or teach in a relaxed social atmosphere. The idea is: you teach me what you know and I will teach you what I know.  Local U3A branches, of which Milford & Godalming u3a is one, are charities in their own right and are run entirely by volunteers. They draw upon the knowledge, experience and skills of their members to organise and provide interest groups to cover whatever subjects or activities the membership choose. Between them, U3A branches offer the chance to study over 300 different subjects including art, languages, music, history, life sciences, philosophy and computing.

There is no accreditation or validation and there are no assessments or qualifications to be gained. The U3A provides learning for pleasure, the enjoyment of sharing knowledge and the opportunity to make new friends who have the same interests. However, several of our members have had work published. Click here for details.
